Why is our collective psyche filled with end-time prophecies?
Off late you might be coming across the news and think it seems so prophetic. The world does feel like it's coming to an end.
Here is a quick overview of different religions and cultures on what it has to say about the "end times".
1. The Kalyug - Age of Downfall
According to Hinduism, the fourth and final era in the spiritual evolution of man. Kali is the reigning Lord of Kali Yuga and his nemesis is Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of Vishnu.
At the end of Kali-yuga, humanity will have no essence of spirituality left in their souls. They will be bitter resentful creatures full of greed and violence.
Sin will increase exponentially, while virtue will fade.
Rulers will become unreasonable and tax unfairly.
Lust will be viewed as socially acceptable and sex will be seen as the central requirement of life.
People will become addicted to intoxicating drinks and drugs.
Gurus will no longer be respected. Their teachings will be insulted.
Rulers will no longer see it as their duty to promote spirituality, or to protect their subjects. They will become a danger to the world.
All human beings will declare themselves as gods or boon given by gods and make it as a business instead of teachings.
Weather and environment will degrade with time and frequent and unpredictable rainfalls will happen.
People will start migrating due to the food crisis.
Earthquakes will be common.
The powerful people will dominate the poor people.
Many diseases will spread.
At the end of Kali Yuga, Lord Vishnu will take birth on earth to wipe out the sinners.
2. The Bible: Book of Revelations
Christianity prophesies a one-world religion and the antichrist.
The Four Horsemen of the apocalypse - War, Strife, Famine and Death.
The seven bowls of wrath are a set of plagues mentioned in the Book of Revelation. Seven angels are given seven bowls of God's wrath. They are poured out on the wicked and the followers of the Antichrist.
Sores afflict those who accept the Mark of the Beast.
The sea and rivers turn to blood and all creatures die.
Mankind scorched by the heat of the sun.
Holy lands dry up and armies gather there for armageddon. (Middle East)
Earth is utterly shaken by the worst earthquake in the history of mankind.
Frogs, gnats, locusts, lice, diseased livestock, hail will plague the land.
'Mark of the Beast' is a demonic mark all people will be forced to bear. Many conspiracy thinkers are equating Bill Gates's digital implant/tattoo as the mark of the beast. This was triggered by his patent for the implant having the ominous 666. This digital mark is a cryptocurrency system using body activity data. The one-world religion is money.
3. Islam's End Times
Similar to other Abrahamic religions, Islam teaches that there will be a resurrection of the dead will be followed by a final tribulation and eternal division of the righteous and wicked.
During this period, terrible corruption and chaos would rule the earth, caused by the Masih ad-Dajjal (the Antichrist in Islam), then Isa (Jesus) will appear, defeating the Dajjal and establish a period of peace, liberating the world from cruelty. These events will be followed by a time of serenity when people live according to religious values.
Sexual immorality appears among people to such an extent that they commit it openly, except that they will be afflicted by plagues and diseases unknown to their forefathers;
People cheat in business and are stricken with famine, calamity, and oppression as a result;
They withhold charity and hoard their wealth, and rain is withheld from the sky from them; there is rain only for animals;
A huge black cloud of smoke (dukhan) will cover the earth.
Floods and Earthquakes
The false messiah—anti-Christ, Masih ad-Dajjal—shall appear with great powers as a one-eyed man with his right eye blind and deformed like a grape. Although believers will not be deceived, he will claim to be God, to hold the keys to heaven and hell, and will lead many astray. In reality, his heaven is hell, and his hell is heaven.
4. Thot's Prophecy
An ancient Egyptian deity, also known as Hermes to the Romans leaves a heartfelt lament to the end-times. He was the god of wisdom, writing, hieroglyphs, science, magic, art, judgment, and the dead.
Crime, war, fraud, robbery and hostile
Sea bear no ships
All voices of god will be forced into silence.
Humans live soullessly.
Thot's Prophecies Beautifully narrated by Graham Handcock :
5. Hopi Tribe
The Native American tribe has a rich culture and now only a few remain. They believe, three previous human worlds were destroyed when people became greedy, worshipped technology as a god fought and hurt each other, and repeatedly forgot the ethical teachings they’d been given to honour the Earth as the source of life and sustenance. Three apocalypses inevitably ensued—first by fire, then by ice, then a flood.
These three global destructions were not the result of merely random earth changes or astrophysical phenomena but of humankind’s disregard both for Mother Earth and for the spiritual dictates of the Creator. In other words, cataclysmic events in the natural world are causally connected to collective transgressions or negatives human actions.
It supposedly represents the path of the Two-Hearts, who are wreaking havoc on our Earth Mother and living contrary to ecological principles and the laws of Nature.
Why is our collective psyche filled with end-time prophecy?
In all ancient cultures, there are similarities. They all prophesized how mankind will be consumed by anger and greed to such an extent that humans will be blind to a spiritual existence. We've all heard stories about the end-times from either our parents or teachers. It is a part of our collective memory.
According to Psychologist, Carl Jung's theory on the collective unconscious, that it is made up of a collection of knowledge and imagery that every person is born with and is shared by all human beings due to ancestral experience. Like stories from the Bible or Quraan. Although individuals do not know what thoughts and images are in their collective unconscious, it is thought that in moments of crisis the psyche can tap into the collective unconscious. Simply said, some news or images tap into certain emotions.
We are facing a gradual collapse of the world.
Disease, injustice, locust storms, bleeding rivers and burning forests - are not just tales written in the old books. Adding to this, there is a lot more cruelty and violence which goes unreported. Global Warming and Climate Crisis is an inescapable reality now.
Images of human suffering, environmental degradation and inequality have a lasting impact on the memory - they become iconic images which define the moment in history and influence our collective unconscious.
That is why the end-time prophecies seem to draw so much attention now. We know, that as a species we failed. That we should accept the doom which lies ahead. Greed and violence have consumed us. Guilt, fear and hopelessness are common emotions faced during the lockdown.
How do we survive the end-times?
Restore the connection with your soul.
To conclude, all religion's central goal is to ignite a sense of spirituality. To make sure humans live with kindness and compassion. Modern living has severed our connection with spirit. As an individual, we cannot stop global destruction, but what we can do is choose a path. We can make changes in our own lives.
After the end-times, we have hope for a New World being forged. All ancient text speak of a new Era where truth and justice will be the law of the land.
That does seem like a distant dream now. However, it seems the darkest before dawn.
