Medium: Acrylic on Paper

Theme: Whimsy, Playfulness, and the Celebration of Ocean Life

Under the Sea is a joyful exploration of the vibrant creatures that call the ocean home. Spread across two pages, each sea creature is framed in its own little box — almost like characters in a storybook or windows into an underwater carnival.

Here you’ll meet a confused crocodile trying to find its place, an old blind turtle moving slowly but with quiet wisdom, and an octopus who can’t swim, adding a touch of humor and irony. An angry puffer fish steals the spotlight, its mood so fierce it has even the shark looking worried. A curious crab peers out of its box, while a parrotfish with broken teeth still flashes its quirky grin, reminding us that imperfection has its own beauty.

This artwork is whimsical and light, celebrating the quirks and individuality of marine life. Each creature has its own story, its own personality, its own rhythm in this underwater world. The use of vibrant acrylics turns the composition into a playful mosaic of sea life, where humor, charm, and wonder come together.

At its heart, Under the Sea is a reminder that nature isn’t just majestic — it’s also quirky, imperfect, and endlessly full of character. By giving these creatures a touch of personality, I invite viewers to smile, to imagine, and to celebrate the ocean as a living story.

As an artist living in Goa, the sea is my constant source of joy and inspiration. I’ve always felt that the ocean has a unique way of making people happy — whether it’s the sound of waves, the salty breeze, or the playful rhythm of swimming in its waters. For me, painting sea creatures is like capturing little fragments of that happiness and sharing them on paper.

When I show people my art, I love asking a simple question: What’s your favorite sea creature? It always sparks laughter, curiosity, and the most unexpected answers.

Some people are drawn to the strength of a shark, others to the mystery of an octopus, or the silliness of a crab. But what I love most is how this conversation gently opens a door to their inner child — the part of us that still delights in wonder, storytelling, and imagination.

Finding the inner child is about reconnecting with that pure, playful side of ourselves — the one that isn’t worried about being perfect, the one that sees magic in the everyday. In a world that often feels too serious, I believe art can be a reminder to stay curious, to laugh, to explore, and to hold onto the joy that lives inside us all.

That is what Under the Sea celebrates: not just life in the ocean, but the life of the child within us, waiting to smile and swim free.
